I was just thinking this morning or yesterday morning how amazingly amusing it is that, in The Hitchhiker's Guide universe, the people who don't produce a product, the designers and hairdressers and lawyers and bureaucrats, survive to seed the new earth that Slarty Bartfast has made, and how in our universe these people are much better paid than the people who produce an actual product, the farmers and fishers and loggers.

I think Douglas Adams may have been being ironic.

"Try my flank. It's very tender."

"Oh, that was EASY," says man, and for an encore goes out to prove that black is white and gets killed at the next zebra crossing.

- Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
