I posted the following in response:

You’re absolutely right, CL does need a new posting area: Bigots 4 bigots.

It would be great, they could set up a whole set of parallel personals ads according to what kind of bigot you are and what kind of bigot you’re seeking.

I propose the following system:

Categories of bigotry:
r = racial or ethnic heritage, language, culture
s = sexual preference
g = gender
b = body type
d = disability
a = age
c = class
p = politics
r = religion
o = other

Say, for example, that you’re a male racist seeking a male racist, your category would be mr4mr. If you were a male whose bigotry were other and you were seeking a female whose bigotry were sexual preference, your category would be mo4fs.

Within the body of the ad, the system would be similar to the regular system in that the first letter would signify marital status or sexual orientation, the second letter would signify race and the third letter would signify gender. The fourth and subsequent letters would signify sub-category(s) of bigotry, that is what the seeker hates the most. Following are some examples:

Ch = Chinese
Aa = African
Na = Native
As = Asian
Sa = South Asian
Ca = Caucasian
Eu = European
Me = Middle Eastern

Sexual Preference:
He = Hetero
Ga = Gay
Le = Lesbian

So you can see that this proposed system, if used properly, would be far more accurate at detailing preferences than any personals system currently in use. It would enable all of us to be much more precise when posting our personal ads, which would save us all a lot of time.

I have to get up when?

My mother (the momster) has eye surgery scheduled tomorrow morning at 6:00 am. I have to pick her up by 5:00 am. Yuck. I don't want to.

To paraphrase Grampa K ("Christmas is over for another year..."), Going to work is over for another year.

I think that the toe might be infected. It's sore and the cuticle looks pale and kind of dead. Hmm.

I posted in CL freestuff the uber-pink hand and head. I am astonished by how many people have expressed some desire for this awful thing. I should have put it in the barter section and seen what I could trade up for. Kathleen at work tells a story of a friend of hers who traded a red paper clip up to a snomobile. How enterprising.

One Week Craigslist Rants and Raves Free

As the title says, I have made it through one week without reading Cranks and Craves.  It is addicting; I found it especially so because my very first post there (a cranky response to someone else's cranky post) resulted in an e-mail response from someone who was witty and articulate and fun, someone who turned out to be Mitch...

I still think about him a lot. I know it's best that it worked out the way it did, but it really did seem so perfect and wonderful at the time.

What I believe to be true of Mitch:
38 years old;  intelligent; witty; has an MA (English Lit); did not complete a PhD (English Lit); has written but not published a novel; has 3 major symptoms of anxiety (nail-biting, smoking, insomnia); has student loans and has said that he can't get a charge card; speaks of not having money a bit too much; socializes with 24 year olds (a lot); lives a lot like a 24 year old; said that the most interesting thing he has ever done is to dress in full drag and attend a class; once said that he had to "dumb himself down" to be with his friends; is a creature of habit; writes long hand in wooden pencil on steno pads that one of his friends steals from work for him; is willing to cheat; has been married and left his marriage for his great love who is still married and not willing to leave her marriage to be with him; lived in a SRO hotel in Gastown for 3 and a half years after leaving his marriage; works as a Boy Friday; has worked as a telemarketer.

What I wish were true:
That Mitch and I were able to give our connection more of a chance than we did; that he were not one more in the long line of Cameron men (even though he is a faux Cameron) in my life, the long line of Camerons who are unavailable and unattainable to me; that I had the balls and the fortitude to ask the question "Does it have to be this way?".

Three months further along, and I have not yet been able to completely let go of something that existed in my life for about two weeks. What's with that? What kind of romantic goof am I? A romantic goof that cannot believe that Mitch is willing to let the good of us go with the bad.

I really need to ask the question. Even if the answer hurts, I need to hear it, understand it and then to let go.

It's raining outside. This is a good thing - the streets have needed a good washing down.

More Feedback of the Good Kind

I asked Erin how the interview with Trevor Hughes (CBC Arts Reporter) went, and she said that it was great, that my piece was mentioned on-air but that my name was cut off, and her piece was mentioned on-air as well.

Wow, leaving my comfort zone is maybe not as bad as I thought it would be.

I have taken to writing parodies of some of the obnoxious posts to CL RnR, some of the racist, homophobic, rude, preposterous stuff, and posting them to CL RnR. I enjoy this sort of activity.

CL sometimes seems full of bigotted trolls and assholes, monsters, idiots and creeps galore. That said, I've appreciated the value of everybody I've met through the list. Odd.

Soon it will be autumn. Soon it will be December. Soon I will have had my home for 2 years. Soon I will retire. Soon I'll have to sell my house and move into a care facility. Soon I'll die.

And that's the truth.

Spoke with Rob/Bob, he said that Barbara has been calling him. He agreed with me that the other's obsessive inability to let go is flattering somehow, somehow reassuring.

Channeling Yahweh

Some months ago when I was posting for flatmates on CL, I contacted (or was contacted by) a woman, Isa, who is Canadian, has lived in Italy, was living in Austrailia, but who would be moving back to Canada in July. We exchanged a few e-mails, and maybe talked on the phone once, she liked the pictures of the room, but no arrangements were made for me to keep a room for her arrival. I did tell her that if one of the rooms was available when she arrived here she would be welcome to come over and check it out.

She's in town now and has phoned me a few times. She's looking for a place to live for September. I hooked her up with Pat who is looking for a flatmate for September.

Early last evening I called Isa to invite her to the opening ceremony for the Tai Chi Pavilion in Strathcona Park that Pat has been working on for the past year or so. She couldn't talk for long, but did tell me that she was going to be channeling later with a group of people, one of whom intoned "Yahweh". She said, "Yeewah?" He corrected her pronunciation, and she said "We're going to channel Yahweh".

Yeesh, she channels the jealous god from the Old Testament. Yeesh. I suspect that too many people right now are channeling Yahweh, and that is making problems for the rest of us.
